How do I know if a mole needs to be checked by a doctor?
Most moles are healthy and will stay that way. If you are worried about a mole, you should get it checked.
This video gives advice on what to look out for, but you should get it checked if you are worried at all for any reason.

4. Your images are submitted via a secure internet connection to the UK Consultant Dermatologist

Up to 3 moles checked by a consultant dermatologist £100
For comparison, a typical face to face appointment with a private dermatologist usually starts from £200.
Who will I see at Mole Check Wales?
Dr Gwen Adey will see you at your appointment. Dr Gwen is a dental surgeon with 18 years experience and nearly 5 years experience as an aesthetic practitioner.
Dr Gwen is a member of and has trained with the Primary Care Dermatology Society to take dermoscopic photos. The service Dr Gwen provides is as a medical photographer. She uses an advanced dermatoscope (type of skin scope) to take the images of your mole.
The dermatologist who reports on your mole will be named on your report; a number of UK consultant dermatologists provide reports.
What does a mole check feel like? Does it hurt?
It is just photos, there is no pain. A small amount of ultrasound gel or olive oil will be applied to your mole; this can feel cold. The skin scope will touch your skin with the gel/oil in between. The scope glass plate also feels cold to your skin. It takes only seconds for each photo.
Does this service give a diagnosis?
This service provides a "working diagnosis" given by a consultant dermatologist. Occasionally, the dermatologist will advise that a biopsy is needed to make a "definitive diagnosis".
What are the benefits of using Mole Check Wales?
Knowledge is power and this is particularly true in health. Time also matters in health.
Many reports will give reassurance. Some will not give reassurance but will give the information needed to take steps to getting the right help in a timely manner.
